This is kind of strange reviewing something we all know of. I took this car to Solo 1 driving school on the weekend, ran at the Mosport DDT track at Bowmenville. I wasn't trying to get myself killed, or set record breaking time, so I was taking it easy most of the time.
Everything in the car is stock except:
1 - Tires replaced by set of Yokohama ES100.
2 - Neuspeed Struct Bar installed.
3 - Short-throw shift adapter.
First of all, I would like to say, our car handles VERY WELL. I did not lose control once, and I was able to stay on the track the whole weekend. I didn't go fast enough to make the car understeer or oversteer, but I feel the car is very capable of keeping itself on the track, and just staying out of trouble. On several corners, I hit the rumble at the corners, but the car recovered quickly, and didn't bounce around too much. A small complaint is that the car (steering) gets a little upset when I up-shift, even though I was trying to shift as smoothly as possible.
Brakes are absolutely fantastic, very capable of handling our car, no fading at all. I had good brake at the beginning of a session, I had the same good brake at the end.
Pretty warm day today, nothing was overheating.
I was keeping up pretty good with the other cars at the corners, but once we hit the straight, I fell way behind. I was doing like 110 at the end of the straight, and some of the other guys with much more powerful cars were doing at least 140 - 150. On Saturday, the course was setup at a lower speed, I wasn't doing too bad. On Sunday, the course was setup at a much higher speed configuration, I couldn't keep up anymore, everyone was passing me, lol.
The tires did well, although I was wearing them out pretty fast, the compound was "melting" for a lack of a better term. Like, I'd pick up bits of tires from the other cars, and the bits would intergrate into my tires when they cool down. BTW, this is the second season I am using them. Probably the last.
On a circular skid pad, I was able to go around at 45km/h without losing grip.
Did some slalom as well, I thought I was doing pretty well there, until I sat in someone's RX8 (he left it in 1st gear, I had to go to 2nd gear as soon as I left the starting area).. and I just feel we really lack the power to re-accelerate quickly in our cars for slalom courses. (or maybe I just plain sux)
Well that was my weekend, all in all I am very happy with this car. :)
BTW, my mileage for the weekend:
620.0 KM 57.425 Liters = 9.26L/100KM
(about 420KM was spent on the hwy commuting to the track)
