u dont always need new bolt and washer..

i usually change my bolt and washer every 3 oil changes.

for oil, i use mobile1
and i use the Fram double guard filters

i buy it all from canadian tire

Buy the filter from a Honda dealer. The filters usually come with a new gasket/washer. The oil you can buy anywhere. Just use a good quality kind, not no-name Walmart stuff. I use Quaker State myself, but I will probably switch to Mobile 1 next change because my car has 140000k's on it now. Your owners manual should tell you how much to fill it. 4 small bottles or 1 big one is enough with a bit to spare.

iight so oil i'm gonna go mobile1. that part is solved.
now as for the filter. does the fram filters not come with new gasket/washer? if not were would i get the washer behind the bolt?
as for fillin the oil should i dump the whole ting in?
cuz the manual iz kind of confusing.

Honda Dealer

get the washer's & filters from them

buy enough for 3 or 4 oil changes, so you don't have to go to the dealership everytime you want to change your oil

just to summarise everyone here...

filter: I use a fram but now that I've read this article, I might change that..
oil: i've been using Quaker State's Syntec 5w-30. Mobil1 seems pretty popular tho. 4L will be perfect.
drain bolt: depends on the washer. If you have a plastic washer, you'll want to change it at least every 3 changes. I have a metal one with a rubber ring and don't need to change it until it wears out...

Actually our 1.6's uses exactly 3.6 quarts of oil w/ a new filter. I wouldn't recommend pouring the entire 4. Too much is not good :shake: Just an FYI.

You should change your tranny fluid while you're under there. Most people don't even think to. It's even easier then changing the oil.

Yeah, never pour all 4 litres into the engine. Add 3 litres and use the dipstick to check how much more you need and slowly pour it in. It's better to have less oil than to pour too much.
