But this is my first time doing anything like this so, my ideas stop here...please help

I saw this mod written up by NOFX on Honda-tech probably 2 years ago, but didn't get to buying the items till this year. I finally installed it today. I thought I would do a write-up that was more detailed as there seems to be some steps that aren't mentioned and there is a bolt that is different on the EL versus the Civic.

Her thread is referenced here--->http://www.honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=2112319

The parts you will need first of all are 20,21, and 33 from a Honda CRV. Oddly enough, it is cheaper to buy them seperately then to buy it all together, Item 18. I bought the parts from www.hondapartscheap.com., as it way cheaper than dealer prices even given shipping. You guys can call the dealer up yourselves and compare.

In her thread, she mentions the seal comes with the filter frame which I found out the hard way that it does not. I had to order the seal separately through a Tuner shop as it wasn't worth it to buy it online as I would have to pay the minimum $20 shipping charge just for a seal.

The Filter Frame and Seal

The Filter Element

Now you need to take the backing off the foam seal and stick it around the 3 sides of the filter frame.

Insert the Filter element into the frame in the same direction that the arrows are facing. Make sure that the edge of the filter element catches over the plastic tabs of the filter frame. You'll see what I mean when you try to insert the filter in.

Now, we can get started on installing the Filter.

Tools Needed
-8mm and 10mm socket
-Phillips and Flathead Screwdriver
-8mm ratcheting Gear wrench
-12mm socket
-Vaccum

1. Take everything out of the glovebox, and push inwards where the rubber stop things are so the glovebox can swing down and out of the way. At this point, you could choose to unscrew the 4 screws of the glovebox. I chose to leave the glovebox attached.

2. On the lower left side of the glovebox frame, remove the 10mm bolt and screw.

3. There is a 8mm bolt to the far left of where you removed the bolt and screw. This is where a 8mm Gear wrench comes in handy. If you didn't have it, you'd have to remove the driver's side knee bolster and center console to access that bolt freely.

4. Remove the trim panel on the right side. There is a screw you will need to take off. Next, yank the trim panel out towards you. It will take a bit of force. It's held on by 3 clips.

5. Next you will need to remove the two 8mm bolts and one 12mm bolt from the bottom right of the glovebox frame. I forgot to take a close-up picture of this. The Civic is different in that it uses a 10mm bolt in place of the 12mm. When removing the final bolt, make sure you hold onto the metal bar or glovebox so that you don't damage the glovebox

6. There's a metal bracket that you will need to unscrew.

7. Use a flathead screwdriver to push in the clip. I placed the screwdriver between the clip and the top of the tab, then wiggled it out using my other hand

8. Take out the gray connector and also use a flat head screwdriver to take off the clip off the silver metal tab by pushing the screwdriver between the clip and metal and wiggling it out.

9. There is also a Green and Brown connector you will have to unconnect. Now you can clear the wire harness out of the way. Take off the evaporator lid by lifting edge of the lip from the top and bottom. The lid is shown laying on the floor. The empty space is where the new previously non-existent air filter will go!

10. It's cleaning time. I grabbed the vacuum and stuck the hose in there, and started vaccuming all the leaves, and other dirt and whatnot in there. For extra measure, I took a few wet paper towels, and used a screwdriver to push it in and took it out several times to clean the passage. At this time, I also cleaned all the surrounding areas and the glovebox of dust and cobwebs and protected with DP Interior Surface Protectant
